#7daysofreality 1 min read Motherhood This post – proposing #7daysofreality – is over on The Telegraph’s ‘Mother Tongue’ site here #100happydays took off at a time when I was feeling a bit miserable. When you’re feeling like that, the reality is that seeing glossy pictures of people sharing their happiness can make you feel even more isolated. Shortly after Jess, a school friend, posted that she thought it was really important to count our blessings but asked ‘How reassuring would it be to see people’s real lives rather than the rose-tinted version we normally see on Facebook?’. It got me questioning whether maybe other people would prefer a dose of reality. Please have a read, comment and share, and of course upload your #7daysofreality (and yes I am mortified by the picture of the kids leftovers that I left out for my husband’s dinner) Have Your Say claire 11.06.14 : 22:14 claire 11.06.14 : 22:14 I love this ! I am all too often guilty of looking at other peoples posts of supposedly perfect children/partners/holidays/homes & feeling inadequate & a bit depressed about being a working single mum of nearly 40 in a ( lovely) rented home with 10& 11 year old boys who can be quite frankly a bit wild at times !!! I’m definitely joining in THIS challenge ! Although on a slightly less miserable note I did wonder if 100 days of happiness would make me more aware of the lovely things that happen in a day …… Like the children going to bed without a right carry on ! Lol Reply Steph 12.06.14 : 21:07 Steph 12.06.14 : 21:07 Maybe try both Claire? If you have the energy…! x Reply LP 12.06.14 : 07:14 LP 12.06.14 : 07:14 So,so true. I have been losing (even more) sleep lately worrying about what hasn’t been done, what needs to be done and a million other things. I had a real laugh reading your post before i face my next dose of reality – a toddler’s first poo of the day. I guess you don’t want a photo of that… P.S. I thought your pic of leftover dinner for Dougie looked rather nice, lol! Reply Steph 12.06.14 : 21:07 Steph 12.06.14 : 21:07 Possibly not…v glad to make you laugh though x Reply Cara 12.06.14 : 09:51 Cara 12.06.14 : 09:51 HEAR HEAR 🙂 I had the same reaction to #100days and then decided that instead of whacking a Lo Fi filter on my latte, I’d try write a little bit everyday instead. Not necessarily for posting, but just to get a better sense of what is really going on in my over-caffeinated stressed out state. Sharing the real stuff, gives others confidence to do the same. Also I need to detox off instagram. Its a problem Reply Steph 12.06.14 : 21:06 Steph 12.06.14 : 21:06 Don’t say that – am just getting started on there! Thanks Cara x Reply Jean 13.06.14 : 15:00 Jean 13.06.14 : 15:00 Oh, I love this! I’m definitely up for this, will be keeping track of my #7daysofreality this week. And a brilliant concept, I may have to try it out… #PoCoLo Reply Steph 13.06.14 : 21:22 Steph 13.06.14 : 21:22 Oh go on! Seeing lots of Instagram and Facebook and the best bit is all the likes and comments from people relating or laughing with the person doing it. I’ve seen calpol up walls, ridiculous piles of washing, boredom in a meeting room, kids mid-tantrum and someone writing 6-months-late thank you letters. It’s good to share! Reply Merlinda Little (@pixiedusk) 14.06.14 : 06:48 Merlinda Little (@pixiedusk) 14.06.14 : 06:48 I just commented on how facebook makes me feel bad about myself cuz everyone there is so awesome and I am not. This is a lovely idea and we should pushed ideas like this! #pocolo Reply Julia 14.06.14 : 20:21 Julia 14.06.14 : 20:21 Great idea, I couldn’t agree more with the irritating 100 happy days thing. I will join you in #7daysofreality! X Reply Tarana 17.06.14 : 04:39 Tarana 17.06.14 : 04:39 This makes so much more sense! Now the question is, will people be brave enough to share their realities? You made a good start, though 🙂 Reply Lucy 30.06.14 : 08:43 Lucy 30.06.14 : 08:43 I so agree. Facebook has become a forum for people’s egos. My favourite ever pos t is from a friend who admitted she ‘had just done the loudest ever fart in a yoga class and couldn’t stop laughing’. That’s what Facebook is about!
