SPOTLIGHT ON: Luke Boase, Founder of Lucky Saint, the tasty (yes tasty) low alcohol beer 3 mins read Business & Work Luke Boase founded Lucky Saint after struggling to find an alcohol free beer with great taste. He shares his story with Don’t Buy Her Flowers. Following the success of our Spotlight on Suppliers, we are continuing to share stories of how our suppliers came about and how they have coped during a pandemic. What gave you the idea for Lucky Saint? Before Lucky Saint, I struggled to find an alcohol-free beer that I enjoyed drinking or a brand that made me feel good about choosing to drink a no/low option. So I wondered how hard it would be… It took two years, working with six different breweries in three countries before deciding on the Lucky Saint recipe – a refreshing, 0.5% Pilsner-style lager. The light bulb moment came when I discovered how important the filtration process, or lack thereof, was to the flavour of beer. Filtering beer strips out flavour and body and can leave you wanting more. I eventually found a brewer in Bavaria who shared the same goals as me – to create an alcohol free, unfiltered, Pilsner Style lager. After some trial and error and little bit of luck, Lucky Saint was born. How have you found the last 12 months? The last 12 months have been the busiest yet. I think the biggest challenge was having to transform our business from an On Trade business into a true omnichannel business in order to thrive through lock down. The biggest win being that we actually managed to do this and saw our business grow by over 300% during that time. Our team has also grown from 6 to nearly 30 which has been incredibly exciting to see and I can’t wait to get back in the office with them all. Have you learned anything new in the last 12 months that you will be keeping even once life (hopefully) returns to normal? We’ve all learnt the importance of separating work life and home life (tricky when working from home). So when we go back to the office, we’ll still keep things flexible but weekends are weekends and they are sacred. A lot of our packages are sent for people going through something, whether that’s illness or a break up or a tough time at work. What’s your go-to product or thing to do when you’re feeling the need for TLC? My go-to at the moment is the Pizza in the Post box from Pizza Pilgrims. Neapolitan pizza that you assemble and cook yourself. Comfort food that’s easy but engaging to make. Plus I’m a wannabe pizza chef. What is the most thoughtful thing someone has ever done for you? Sent me a pizza in the post! Father’s Day is approaching so, as a dad to two young children, what would your perfect day look like? A morning run, coffee and croissants in the sunshine, and swimming with the kids. That’s a pretty good summer’s day, father’s day or not! What makes you laugh? My wife – she can be hilarious. Words to live by? Be Generous. Stay Humble. Get Lucky. Also known as our values at Lucky Saint. Lucky Saint can be found in all our Create a Gift packages along with Create a Man, and The Pub Package. Perfect for Father’s Day and we can’t recommend it enough. Be the first to leave a comment Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
